VA, VA, VAN BEETHOVEN
Fable in the Form of Theme and Variations

The show tells the story of the necessity and joy of Variations, in music and in life, for Ludwig van Beethoven. Few people know that the great master moved more than 80 times in 35 years! He, with his grumpy character and his large piano always in tow, went from house to house, grumbling and composing immortal music. But all of this was complicated by the secret need to hide from everyone the drama of his progressive illness: the great composer was becoming completely deaf!

Yet, for Ludwig, experimenting, inventing, astonishing, and varying on familiar material was a source of inexhaustible pleasure, and it seemed to us an unmissable starting point to give a narrative form to the musical structure of the Theme with Variations. Changes and variations would accompany him toward the inevitable arrival at a new place: the world of silence.

The theatrical action will therefore be accompanied by the performance of Beethoven’s Op. 35: Theme, Variations, and Fugue on motifs from the Eroica.
