THE SOUND OF MUSIC film is a fictional retelling of nun Maria von Trapp’s experience as governess to seven children, her eventual marriage to their father Captain Georg von Trapp, and the family’s escape from Salzburg during the Anschluss of 1938.
Beautifully realized as a film produced and directed by the great Robert Wise, with a script by Ernest Lehman, this iconic film is based on the 1959 stage musical composed by Richard Rodgers, with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Lindsay and Crouse is beloved throughout the entire world.
