For two thousand years humanity believed that the Sun and all the constellations of the sky revolved around it.
But one morning the light of science shone clear: someone established through calculation that the Sun stands still and the Earth moves.
And yet, in that luminous seventeenth century, fires were still being lit. Cities were full of superstition and plague.
Books, ideas and souls were burned. Rebels, prostitutes, women of letters, artists.
In a word: witches.
All to be burned. All to be punished.
Among them, Artemisia Gentileschi.
This show tells her story: her talent, but also her extraordinary strength of spirit, in a century in which women were allowed practically nothing.
A show by Virginia Martini
with Federica Bini, Irene Cucchiarelli, Teresa Direnzo, Susanna Giannini, Cinzia Macerini, Elena Talenti.
The show will be preceded by a talk on the Teatro Niccolini, its history and what makes it unique.
