Czech-Canadian singer-songwriter Jan Kalousek comes to Teatro Niccolini in Florence on October 4 with a concert built around the songs, memories and experiences that have shaped his life and career.
Raised in Prague’s vibrant music scene, in 1982, at the age of twenty-two, Kalousek fled communist Czechoslovakia and moved to Canada, beginning a journey that would later take him to Paris, Berlin and, after the Velvet Revolution, back to Prague. Over the following decades, he built a long career as a singer, songwriter and guitarist, releasing eight albums and becoming a familiar voice to generations of Czech listeners.
For his Florence concert, Kalousek will be joined by Richard Dvořák on piano, Michal Voldán on bass and Jan Tittlbach on drums.
The programme combines his own songs with international classics that have accompanied him throughout his life, including music by Simon & Garfunkel, Leonard Cohen, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan and Bob Marley.
But The Songs of My Life is more than a collection of songs. Each piece is connected to a memory, a place or a moment in Kalousek’s story: from his early years in Prague to Montreal and Berlin, from musical encounters abroad to the songs that later became part of his own career.
