Buonasera a tutti is a recital conceived as a direct encounter with the audience. Its very title contains the promise of an authentic relationship: a dialogue that breaks through the fourth wall and becomes a shared experience. A greeting becomes an embrace, a simple opening gesture that is also profoundly theatrical.
The performance retraces key moments in Barra’s life and career. His childhood between Procida and Naples in the 1950s, his early beginnings with Zietta Liù, the success of the Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare and his years on stage alongside his mother, Concetta Barra. A journey spanning more than sixty years of performance, offering a portrait of a truly unique figure on the Italian stage.
This is not a chronological account, but a poetic narrative that transforms memory. Baroque music and popular tradition intertwine on stage with the world of Giambattista Basile, authors such as Antonio Petito and Raffaele Viviani, variety theatre and cabaret, all the way to contemporary singer-songwriters. His career is retraced through the many genres he has explored, but childhood remains at its heart, a universal place in which we can all recognise something of ourselves.
Peppe Barra commands the stage alone, accompanied at the piano by Maestro Luca Urciuolo. The performance moves between irony and poetry, lightness and depth, in a continuous interplay with the audience, where every word and every note become part of a shared experience.
