The Performance

Dante’s words meet live music and contemporary reflection in Dante’s Inferno: A Fusion of Text, Music and Thought, a DopoLavoro Teatrale creation commissioned by the prestigious Stratford Festival.

At the heart of the performance is the universal journey told in the Divine Comedy: a man who has lost his way, his passage through Hell and the search for a possible path through the darkness.

Daniele Bartolini brings Dante’s verses to the stage, while Professor Donato Santeramo’s narration guides the audience through the work, shedding light on meanings, references and questions that remain profoundly contemporary. Andrea Gozzi’s live music creates an immersive soundscape around the words, placing the audience “in the midst” of a forest of speakers.

Theatre, literature and music come together in a unique artistic-pedagogical combination that spans the centuries and brings Dante into the present, making his descent into Hell a reflection on the anxieties, contradictions and search for meaning of our time.
