Sixty years after the devastating flood that struck Florence on November 4, 1966, the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino presents a concert dedicated to the memory of that tragic day and to the profound connection between the city and the forces of nature.
Through a carefully curated selection of arias and duets from the great operatic repertoire, the theme of the natural elements emerges as a recurring thread. Storms, water, night and its mysterious atmosphere become images of a natural world capable of unleashing its full power and destructive force, but also of guiding humanity towards new possibilities.
The programme concludes with a rare excerpt from the third part of Camille Saint-Saëns’ oratorio Le Déluge, Op. 45, depicting the end of the storm, the release of the dove and the departure from the ark.
This finale takes on a symbolic meaning: from the memory of tragedy to hope, from devastation to rebirth.
A concert to remember, but also to look towards the future, through music, memory and hope.
